Bristol Ghost Tours

Welcome to the home of Bristol Ghost Tours, the very best ghost tour available in Bristol today. I'm Dr Blood, and we have some amazing stories to tell you on our tours, full of tales of horrible hauntings, misery, bloodshed, pirates, and public executions, what's not to like?  Tours running between March and December, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Saturday & Sunday nights 7.30pm from outside Bristol Cathedral.  Tickets - Adults £17, Child/Student £12.

Bristol is a vibrant city and a great night out, but it is extremely haunted!

Bristol is indeed a very historical city, full of magnificent architecture, with a rich and colourful history.  This is   especially true close to the docks and in the old Medieval town.  Not surprisingly perhaps, is that many of the sites and buildings, are also heavy with memories and spirits of those that have come before.  Almost every building has a story to tell, and in many, those stories are based on the reports of hauntings through the centuries.

OUR STORY

Hello there, I'm Dr Blood and I'm tolerably excited to welcome you all to Bristol Ghost Tours!  You may recognised the name, as I am indeed the same Dr Blood from Bath Ghost Tours.

After many years of leading highly praised tours around the haunts of Bath, I started researching some of the literally dozens of hauntings in Bristol.  Having grown up in Bristol, and indeed having lived in a haunted house in the city as a child, I knew that the city should have, and deserved a proper ghost tour.  It has taken two years of research, but finally in 2023, we were ready to share some of the many stories that have been uncovered.  We have had to be quite brutal in deciding which haunts are included, as Bristol itself, is a difficult city to discover on foot.  Consequently, our ghost tour is centred around the Old Medieval area of the city, which unsurprisingly perhaps, is full of tales of the paranormal!

In creating these tours in Bristol, it became apparent that Bristol was, in many ways a very different city to that of Bath.  There were more steps to negotiate, busy roads to get around, and to be blunt, the centre of the city can be quite, shall we say vibrant?

It was important to design these tours around these issues, as well as ensure that the tour itself would still retain the elements of fun and family friendliness, that we have managed to include in the Bath Ghost Tours.  To help with this. we have decided to start the tours at 7.30pm, outside the Bristol Cathedral, in order to be able to finish the tours in Queen Square, at a time before it gets too loud in the city.

We have included as many of the best stories that we can in the route, and removed the majority of the steps, with the notable exception of Christmas Steps, which, you will discover, is just too good to miss out!

The Tours

The Bristol Ghost Tour is a mixture of fun, darkness, theatrics, story telling, and yes, a little bit of participation from the lucky crowd.  Having run successful ghost tours for many years already in Bath, we have borrowed the elements that have proven to be most popular over the years and adjusted them for the Bristol tour.  As well as this, with the Bristol Ghost Tour, we have created a quite unique experience, largely due to the depth and richness of the haunted locations in the Old city.

In 2025, we are running ghost tours in Bristol on Weds, Thurs, Fri, Saturday and Sunday nights, from 1st March until the 24th December.  All tours start at 7.30pm from outside the Bristol Cathedral on College Green.  Private Ghost tours are available upon request, subject to availability, please contact us directly for more details.

What will you see & hear?

On the Bristol Ghost Tour, you will discover up to 17, yes 17  different haunted locations.  Some of the sites have changed dramatically over the centuries, whilst some have remained in almost original condition, but they are all haunted.  Along the way you will hear tales of the ghosts of pirates, murders in the dark, public executions, witch trials, hidden treasures, vengeful monks & bloody massacres.  You will also discover some of the haunted secrets of Bristol and will never look at a shopping centre in quite the same relaxed way ever again!

Where will you go?

We begin our tours from the Bristol Cathedral, and then weave our trail of despair through the streets of Old Bristol Town, ending up in Queens Square.  Along the way, we will hunting through College green, over to Frogmore St, then up Colston St, down Christmas Steps (of course it's haunted!), then along Rupert St,  across and up into Broad St and into the St Nicholas Markets area.  After that we hunt over to the Bristol Bridge, and then drag you all into the King St area which is very rich with the dead, finally ending in the surprisingly tainted location of Queens Square.

The Guides

Who We Are

Dr Blood

Head Guide and Retired Hangman

The good Dr Blood was indeed a celebrated surgeon in his day, on the cutting edge you might say.  With a reputation for the use of innovative techniques and a flair for the dramatic, this notable doctor came undone when it was discovered that the vast majority of his patients had died in very curious circumstances.  However he soon put his nimble fingers to use by becoming a celebrated executioner. for the city!  Today, sadly he is reduced to earning his gin money by tormenting the general public on these tours.

Mrs Needles

Guide, Poisoner and possible Witch

Mrs Needles, a Strange Apparition of dusty feathers and gaudy apparel, has been Haunting the Streets of Bristol & Bath for what it seems to be minutes/decades/centuries. Often rumoured to be a Witch!, or part Bat, by small Urchin children, accusatory Dogs and Respectable Gentlemen, she also has Aquired the nefarious title of a Poisoner. Do Not Accept gifts or victuals from this Creature of The Night!

She is Well Aquainted with The Dead and invites you to follow her and be Formally Introduced. AT YOUR PERIL!

Jimmy the Shrike

Guide, Conman, Thief and heartless murderer.

Jimmy the Shrike.  Formerly known as the Cuckoo in underworld circles, this heartless young man preys upon the wealthy and grieving.  His speciality, is to scour the papers for notices from grieving families of the disappearance of their sons and heirs.  He appears upon their fine doorsteps, pretending to be miraculously the  prodigal son returned.  He worms his way into their homes, hearts and eventually bank accounts.  His last victims, famously threw themselves out of top windows of their fine mansion. The despairing parents intentionally impaled themselves upon the very iron railings, that were originally designed to keep such a nasty fellow as Jimmy the Shrike out!

Tobias Carver

The Bloody Butcher of Old Bristol Town

Tobias Carver, is a very reliable butcher to the gentry, with the requisite skills and contacts, to supply the finest of cuts.  Indeed, Tobias can be trusted to discreetly deal with any descriptions of meat, be it bovine, game or even evidence!  Shooting accidents do occur on a regular basis with the gentry, and Mr Carver will cut, prepare and remove to the highest of standards.  However, we don't recommend eating one of his pies to be honest, you wouldn't want to be accused of being an accessory after the fact, after luncheon!
