Small Title

About

Bath Ghost Tours is the creation of Brother Fergus and Doctor Blood, two rather unsavoury characters both quite dead of course.  The tours themselves have been running since December 2015, taking visitors to the city to the most haunted locations in the town.  Bath itself is literally crawling with ghosts from all of periods of the city's history, far too many to fit into just one 105 minute tour.  Consequently the hauntings and stories that are included in the tours have been selected for their uniqueness, gruesomeness and even their likelihood of a genuine sighting!

After just a few months, it became increasingly apparent that in one particular location of the city, experiments using the visitors to capture photographic evidence of paranormal activity, was increasingly successful.

Because of these sometimes quite shocking results, the tours themselves have become a blend of gruesome tales, theatre, fun and paranormal experiments... So what are you waiting for? Contact us now for a uniquely fun and frightening night out in Bath!

The Tours

Each tour takes our guests through various parts of the city, Roman, Medieval and Georgian locations, many of which would otherwise remain hidden from the casual visitor.  We begin outside the famous Abbey and eventually return you all quite alive back in the centre of town in or around Queens Square.  The tour itself is suitable for all ages, even children as young as 6 or 7, there is some walking involved, with one small set of stairs to negotiate, but otherwise it is a gentle stroll, as you will need all your strength to deal with the ghosts!

The tours run for 105 minutes and is a wonderful way to see this beautiful city at night.  Of course that is just the bonus of the tour, the main reason to come on a tour is to discover some of the many haunts that exist within the walls of this very old city.  On each tour you will hear gruesome tales of murder, horrors, witch burnings, tragic suicides and relentless hauntings from beyond the grave!  There are in this town, ghosts of Roman soldiers, medieval monks, witches, victims of sword fights, restless spirits of the executed, the insane and even the hopelessly romantic

(not every ghost has a dark reason to haunt).  Guests on the tours are encouraged to participate in the theatre of the night as well as in some of the paranormal experiments which we conduct, although you do have to be brave to volunteer for such.  On some evenings, the results of these experiments can be quite nerve-racking!

The steps that lead to the duelling ground_edited.jpg

Group sizes for the tours can fluctuate between 4 and 34, Friday and Saturday nights are naturally the busiest so it is always wise to book in advance for those evenings.  On very busy nights, particularly during the summer, there will be 2 guides/2 tours per night.

Private bookings are also available for parties, corporate functions, hen nights or just because you want your own private ghost tour, minimum numbers apply, please contact us for further details, or click below to see availability for our regulat 7.30pm Private Tour option.

The Guides

Who We Are

IMG_20170123_101015_edited_edited.jpg

Dr Blood

Head Guide and infamous Surgeon

The good Dr Blood was indeed a celebrated surgeon in his day, on the cutting edge you might say.  With a reputation for the use of innovative techniques and a flair for the dramatic, this notable doctor came undone when it was discovered that the vast majority of his patients had died in very curious circumstances.  However he soon put his nimble fingers to use by becoming a celebrated executioner. for the city!  Today, sadly he is reduced to earning his gin money by tormenting the general public on these tours.

Mr Robert Ratler

Rat-Catcher, Vermin killer, Murderer.

Mr Ratler will tell you that all of his victims were just vermin that had to be disposed of, and that all physical evidence has been professionally erased.

Rat-Catcher to the wealthy and fashionable of Bath, Robert Ratler was once a respected tradesman of the city.  Unfortunately, rumours started circulating that it wasn't just the rodents that were being gotten rid of for a price.  It seems that Mr Ratler had expanded his repertoire from creatures upon four legs, to creatures upon just two!  So, if you need a rat killed, any kind of rat, Robert Ratler is the man for the job.

Mr Skinner

Guide, Taxidermist, Killer and Artist!

Another victim of malicious gossip perhaps.  Mr Skinner is our resident taxidermist.  Infamous for his artistic re-invention of the deceased.  If you have a loved family pet, or even family member that you wish to have immortalised and mounted for display, look no further than Mr Skinner.  Indeed, we have it on good authority, that Mr Skinner can even help expedite matters for you, if a family member is proving obstinate in their demise.

Miss Strychnine

Guide, Former Nanny, expert in Poisons and Murderer

Miss Strychnine has a wealth of glowing references form her catalogue of impressive positions, held in with some of the wealthiest families of Britain.  Indeed, her remarkable references, are only equalled by the curious fact that almost all of her former employers died, through a most careful administration of a highly poisonous substance, discovered in each of the victims' coffee.  She is currently taking a small break from the interests of the police, to work with us on the Ghost Tours, although rumours abound, regarding a possible new coffee shop opening in Bath under her capable guidance!

Professor Picric

Guide, Teacher, Chemist & reputed Murderer

Young Professor Picric - A rising academic star in the vaunted field of Chemistry, or so she claims, has what can only be described, as a volatile reputation, one might even say, explosive?

Claims have been made about the various prominent universities at which she has attained her academic position, Edinburgh, Stanford, and even Zurich! It's unwise to question too deeply.  What is certain however, is that she has attained her enviable position through great diligence in her studies, as well as in the effective removal of her fellow classmates and thereby, likely rivals for advancement.  Reports of multiple laboratory accidents/explosions, causing loss of life, have been made, whith the finger pointed quite firmly at the young Professor.  Still, we are happy to have her join our merry band of suspicious characters.

Mrs Rankin

Guide, Former Innkeeper and Backstreet Gin Shop owner & Murderer.

Mrs Rankin, a most charming yet disreputable woman, has famously killed off more than her fair share of customers in Bath it has been said.  With accusing fingers pointing to  her Dubious pies, Homemade Gin &  indeed her Acid tongue.  Fortunately for us, this most innovative business women, has recently agreed to become a guide on the Ghost Tour, what luck!  On the provision of course, that we don't alert the authourities.  Mums the word.

Beckett 1_edited.jpg

Professor Jonathan Beckett IV

Guide, Academic, Philosopher and naturally, Murderer!

For many years, Professor Beckett, was a much respected and valued member of the academic staff, at a certain local university.  His classes were legendary, and certainly no-one else, could boast of a better knowledge of the great 19thC Romantinc novelists.  His classes were alway fully attended, at least for the first few years.  However, things took a darker turn just recently, when certain enrolled students, literally (pun intended), started to disappear.

It seems that this pillar of the academic community, was being a tad over-zealous with his strict marking regime.  If you looked as if you might fail his class, well then, you had to go!

Good news for the Ghost Tour of course, as we don't look too closely at the ocassional misdemeanour, and students as we all know, are ten-a-penny.
